Help Wanted – Part Time Transfer Station Manager

TRANSFER STATION MANAGER
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The main objective of Transfer Station Manager is to oversee the operations of the Brookfield Transfer Station during the two days per week the station is open. Direct oversight is by the elected members of the Board of Health.
Essential Functions of Job:
- Responsible for the monitoring and daily operations of the Transfer Station
- Oversees maintenance of all equipment, buildings, grounds, and monitors all vehicle traffic
- Responsible for administering all applicable state laws and statutes, Town by-laws, codes and programs
- Supervises part time monitors at the Transfer Station
- Operates small equipment
- Inspects all vehicles entering the recycling center for proper permitting
- Responsible for inspecting all items sought to be recycled for compliance with established standards
- Examines contents of hazardous material containers for compliance with regulations
- Communicates with appropriate vendors for removal of certain containers and items from Transfer Station
- Responds to resident inquiries
- Collects fees from residents at Transfer Station
- Turns any cash received at the end of the day into a money order at Cumberland Farms
- Maintains office and grounds in a safe condition
- Delivers trash bags to Board of Health approved vendors and receives money orders from vendor for payment
- Performs similar or related work as required or assigned
Minimum Competencies:
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations governing recycling facilities and landfill requirements
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of solid waste treatment and disposal of large scale municipal recycling
- Knowledge of the materials and techniques required for the maintenance and repair of solid waste facilities and recycling plants
- Ability to enforce and interpret regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially
- Ability to maintain detailed, complete and accurate records
- Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to organize projects, accomplish tasks and meet deadlines
- Excellent resident service skills
- Skill in the operation of all required tools and equipment
- Strong maintenance and repair skills
- Knowledge of all applicable safety and health laws, rules, regulations and guidelines
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment, system/service failures, and identify and correct maintenance problems
- Honesty, reliability, discretion, and good judgment essential
