The Leicester Regional Public Health Coalition (LRPHC) is reminding residents that the current respiratory illness season is underway. Seasonal viruses such as influenza (flu), COVID-19, RSV, and other common respiratory infections are circulating in our communities.

Compared with recent years, this season is showing moderate but steady activity, with respiratory illnesses appearing earlier than average and affecting a broad range of age groups. This underscores the importance of continued prevention efforts, particularly to protect older adults, young children, and individuals with underlying health condition.
PROTECT YOURSELF & OTHERS
- Stay home if you’re sick
- Wash hands often
- Cover coughs and sneezes
- Consider masking in crowded indoor spaces
- Stay up to date on vaccines
- Improve indoor ventilation when possible
- Residents should seek medical care if symptoms worsen, persist, or include difficulty breathing, chest pain, confusion, or dehydration.
Public health officials will continue monitoring respiratory illness trends and will share updates as needed. Taking simple preventative actions can significantly reduce transmission and help keep our community healthy throughout the season.
