Tree Warden

The Tree Warden is a public official responsible for the care, management, and protection of public shade trees located along town roads and on other municipal property. Established under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 87, the Tree Warden oversees tree planting, maintenance, pruning, and removal, while balancing public safety, environmental stewardship, and community aesthetics. The Tree Warden also reviews requests for the removal of public trees, conducts public hearings when required, and helps protect the community’s urban forest as an important natural and civic resource.
