The Town of Brookfield is seeking an Assistant Assessor for 16 to 24 hours a week. This is an in-person position.
The Assistant Assessor performs complex administrative, professional, and supervisory work. Responsibilities include processing motor vehicle billing and abatements using VADAR software; supervising, operating, and maintaining data systems for residential, commercial, industrial, personal property and exempt property; The Assistant Assessor investigates all excise related issues for the Assessor’s office; assists public with general assessing questions as required, as well as varied related duties.

Job Description
Purpose:
Performs administrative and clerical duties, to ensure effective and efficient operations.
Supervision/Supervisory Responsibilities:
Work is overseen by the Board of Assessors.
Essential Functions:
- Provides administrative and clerical including word and data processing, filing, copying, scanning, and handling correspondence
- Frequently interacts with members of the public, federal, state and/or local government officials, and Town employees
- Plans, coordinates, and calendars meetings and events
- Posts and attends all Board meetings; takes, prepares and distributes meeting minutes
- Maintains Department records
- Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls, providing information
- Assists public with general assessing related questions as required
- Processes motor vehicle billing and abatements including use of VADAR software
- Investigates all excise related issues for the Assessor’s office
- Create and maintain new Real and Personal Property Record Card filing system
- Enters data into CAMA system
- Maintains applications for Exemptions and Abatements (including Boat Excise)
- Updates property record cards, and computer records with deed info from the Registry of Deeds
- Verifies parcel related data including acreage and metes and bounds on property tax maps
- Maintains accurate data and edits and updates as needed in property tax maps
- Composes and types letters on as needed basis
- Maintains chapter land files
- Assists in the preparation of annual mailings of Personal Property Forms of List, tax exempt Forms 3 ABC and Chapter 61 Land applications
- Performs similar or related work as required or assigned

- Operates standard office equipment, including a computer, keyboard, and multi-line telephone system
- Proficiency in typing and basic word processing software (such as MS Word)
Education and Experience/Other Requirements:
High school diploma and two years’ experience in a relevant position and knowledge of general office procedures; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Municipal experience preferred.
Will be required to complete Assessor’s Course 200 and DOR Course 101
