HELP WANTED PART TIME:  Brookfield is seeking a dependable, organized, and detail-oriented individual to serve as Board of Health Administrative Assistant for ten hours per week. 
Responsibilities include:
  • Provide administrative support to the Board of Health.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and correspondence.
  • Maintain Board records, permits, and files.
  • Assist the public by responding to inquiries and directing requests.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and regional health agencies.
  • Process permits, licenses, and reports as required.
  • Perform other clerical and administrative duties related to Board of Health operations.
Pay is $22 to $25 per hour, depending upon experience.  See full job description below.

Administrative Clerk
Purpose:
Performs administrative and clerical duties, to ensure effective and efficient operations.
Supervision/Supervisory Responsibilities:
The position receives direction from the Health Agent and works independently.
Essential Functions:
  • Provides administrative and clerical including word and data processing, filing, copying, scanning, and handling correspondence
  • Frequently interacts with members of the public, federal, state and/or local government officials, and Town employees
  • Plans, coordinates, and calendars meetings and events
  • Posts and attends all Board meetings; takes, prepares and distributes meeting minutes
  • Maintains Department records, Including personnel attendance and time off records
  • Responsible for turning over BOH and Transfer Station income to the Treasurer
  • Responsible for preparing expense vouchers and payroll on a bi-weekly basis to be turned over to the accountant
  • Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls, providing information and handling issues that may require sensitivity and the use of sound independent judgment, or refer to appropriate individual(s)
  • Responsible for Beach Testing during swimming season
  • Performs similar or related work as required or assigned

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to deal tactfully, courteously, and professionally with all persons, even in stressful situations, essential
    Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exercise sound judgment and discretion
  • Ability to work in high pressure situations, as necessary
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, takes initiative and able to work independently
    Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, meet deadlines, and deliver high quality work
  • Reliability and professional personal presentation essential
  • Operates standard office equipment, including a computer, keyboard, and multi-line telephone system
  • Proficiency in typing and basic word processing software (such as MS Word),
 
Education and Experience/Other Requirements:
High school diploma and two years’ experience in a relevant position and knowledge of general office procedures; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.  Municipal experience preferred.

The work is performed in an office setting. The employee must operate standard office equipment including computers and keyboards, at efficient speed; and move throughout the municipal office.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The employee will be required to work beyond normal business hours to attend Board of Health meetings.
