Central Street – Phase II
The second phase of the Central Street makeover is in full swing. Portions have been completed. The upgrades include improved sidewalks with handicap accessible ramps, changes to the intersection of Rt. 9 to improve crosswalk visibility and pedestrian safety, installation of high visibility flashing pedestrian crossing beacons and improved signage, installation of a shared use path, and new pavement throughout.
The area in front of the elementary school and intersection of Route 9 has been completed. The Highway Department with the help of the contractor will put forth their best efforts to keep the public updated on any road closures and detours. With all projects, unanticipated events can occur, we will do our best to notify the public of any changes. One of these changes is that we will not be able to get all the granite for the project until next year, due to supply chain issues. The end of Central where it intersects with Common Street will be primarily completed soon. The road will be made plowable and then the project will be on hold. Unfortunately we will not meet our November deadline but we have received an extension on the grant funds.
We thank you for your patience as we enter this next phase. Should you have any questions regarding the work on Central Street, please contact the Highway office at 508-867-8357 or email Highway@brookfieldma.us
Updates will be added as they develop. Please check back periodically and sign up for e-alerts of changes to this page.
