About the Board of Health
and Health Department:

The Board of Health is comprised of three elected citizens from the Town of Brookfield. Board member terms are for a period of three years. The Board of Health implements and oversees the policies and regulations as mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Department of Environmental Protection. Along with the responsibility of protecting the public health, safety and environment of the community, the Health Department issues permits, licenses and conducts inspections. These are issued/conducted for the following: Retail Food Establishments, Mobile Food & Ice Cream, Food Service Establishments, Septic Systems, Sewage Haulers, Septic Installers, Solid Waste Haulers, Children's Recreational Camps, Cabins, Trailers, Parks & Camps, Private Drinking Water Wells, Burial Permits, Funeral Directors, Stable Permits, Body Massage, Body Tanning, and Body Art. Additionally, the Health Department addresses concerns of air quality, noise control, indoor air quality, animal & insect control, food protection, tobacco control, communicable disease reporting and any issues that affect the public's health.

TRANSFER STATION

HOURS: Tuesdays 3 p.m. - 6 p.m., Saturdays, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The transfer station is located on Quaboag Street, just behind the Clam Box restaurant. Permits are required at a cost of $75.00 per year. Special Brookfield trash bags must be used for all trash being deposited at the station, and may be purchased during regular Transfer Station hours or at White's Landing, Cumberland Farms, or Tip Top General Store at a cost of $10.00 per package of ten bags. Permits are available from transfer station personnel. 

NEW :  We now co-mingle the recyclables !  Glass (clear, green & brown), Metal cans & Plastics #1 => #7 are all placed in the same recycle container.  Mixed paper and cardboard are placed together in the same container and newspaper is still recycled separately .
