Tax Collector
The tax collector is appointed official who is charged by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to enforce the state revenue and taxation code which includes the collection of various taxes. The tax collector primarily collects property taxes that fund the activities of local government including the school system. The tax collector does not determine how much to collect. The board of assessors determines the value of a parcel and applies the tax rates and any special assessments to the tax bill. The assessors then charge the tax collector with the collection of the tax bill. If you have questions about the value of your property you should contact the assessor's office at (508) 867- 2930, Extension 16.
